Best urban farmhouse decor ideas - how to get the classic urban look

Looking for urban farmhouse decor? Then you've come to the right place! Today, I'm sharing classic urban farmhouse decor available to buy online right now. All of these are classic pieces that can be used in your home whatever the season.

Click on the product images below to go straight to the item you'd like to view.

For the longest time, I struggled to put a name to my home style. It's kind of farmhouse but then it's not. It's kind of vintage but then it's not. Because of my love of mixing modern with vintage pieces, I decided 'Modern Vintage' or 'Modern Farmhouse' must be my style. Even then, I wasn't quite convinced I'd nailed my personal style. Then I discovered 'Urban Farmhouse Style' and I realised my home has elements of that too. Although I still think my style is a bit of an eclectic mix, I find I'm more drawn to urban farmhouse decor when it comes to decorating our home.

Urban versus Modern Farmhouse style

Urban Farmhouse style is the edgy version of modern farmhouse style. Whereas modern farmhouse style incorporates light and airy colour schemes, urban farmhouse decor tends to incorporate darker tones like black and grey or earthy brown colours. Urban Farmhouse decor also adds some industrial elements to the mix. Black metals, glass light fittings and exposed brick are often seen in home which follow the urban farmhouse style.

I'm not going to be painting all of my white and wood furniture black, or stripping back walls any time soon. That said, I will be leaning more towards decorating and adding more accessories to my home in the urban farmhouse style.

If you are a lover of the urban farmhouse style you may have already read my previous post 'Urban Farmhouse – 10 easy ways to get the look you crave'. If you haven't already, I definitely recommend you read that post too, you'll find so much inspiration there.

This week, I thought it would be fun to take a look around the web to highlight some gorgeous urban farmhouse decor available to buy online right now. We'll be looking at classic pieces that can be used in your home whatever the season.

Urban Farmhouse Design Board

This is design board I put together to help me set the mood for decorating in the urban farmhouse style.

Design boards are fantastic for setting the tone of your decorating. They help you see whether the pieces you've chosen are complementary to each other.

Take a look at my tutorial on making moodboards if you'd like to dig deeper into making mood or design boards yourself.

Urban farmhouse decor - textiles

Pillows

Let's start with textiles i.e pillows, throws, towels etc.

These pillows from Studio McGee at Target are full of gorgeous texture. They include the classic farmhouse stripe but in a more edgy way – perfect urban farmhouse decor!

Find the Studio McGee pillows here.

If you're more of a botanic fan, take look at these lovelies.

This floral farmhouse linen throw pillow is very similar to the throw pillows I have on my sofa!

Throws

Everyone needs throws! In autumn and winter, they add to the cosy atmosphere. I mean, who doesn't love to curl up on the sofa with a good book and a comfy throw!

In summer, these throws can be draped along the backs of outdoor chairs and sofas, ready to grab if the evening turns a bit chilly. You know those wonderful summer evenings when there's just a slight chill rolling in but you don't want to go inside? Those are the evenings when you just need a blanket or throw to snuggle up under!

All Pillows and Throws

Table runner

Muted dark blue, black or jute table runners would look great on either a dining table or a console table. You could use any of these on an outdoor dining table in summer too. Again, they have a classic design and can be used at any time of year - they're so versatile!

Hand towels

Classic plain and multi-stripe towels in railroad grey and cream. Spruce up your guest bathroom with these to add a bit of urban farmhouse style in the smallest room in the house.

Urban farmhouse decor - Soap Dispensers

Talking about the smallest room in the house, get rid of the plastic soap bottle or yucky piece of soap! These beautiful soap dispensers will not only add style to your décor but they are also more eco-friendly than throw away soap bottles.

Urban Farmhouse decor - table

Again, these are all classic table decor pieces in metal, wood, glass and ceramic. You can use any of these in so many ways throughout the seasons.

Serving dish

Look at this gorgeous wooden serving dish – I absolutely love it and it's so affordable!

Urban Farmhouse decor – mirrors

Galvanised and black metal pieces all look right at home in urban farmhouse decor. Here are some to suit every price bracket.

Urban Farmhouse decor - Wall art

For more of an edgy urban farmhouse look, you should go for black and white or sepia photos and prints. Architectural designs look great in the urban farmhouse style. If all black and white is too much for you, you could always mix in some vintage prints in muted colours. Floral and botanical prints will also help soften the look.

Urban farmhouse decor -Rugs

Look for vintage rugs in grey and white tones or natural fibre rugs like sisal or jute. These are some of my favourites.

When choosing a rug, think about contrast. A white or beig sofa would look great paired with a darker coloured or natural jute rug. A darker sofa will look great paired with a lighter coloured rug.

Urban farmhouse - Door mats

Classic coir door mats pair well with indoor outdoor mats for the front door.

I hope you enjoyed diving into urban farmhouse decor as much as I did. I had so much fun putting all of these items together. It's plain to see that urban farmhouse decor pieces will blend in nicely with any kind of farmhouse style.

Next week will probably be a crafting week on the blog - we'll see!

Happy farmhouse styling!

OOH. I had never really thought of the term Urban Farmhouse! I like it. I am drawn more to it than the chippy paint, rustic farmhouse style. I'm all about black metals! In fact, I was just thinking last week that I'm about to add more into my home somehow! Thanks for the inspiration!
