Spring is in the air! It's March already and we've been having such lovely weather, it has put me in the mood for crafting. I'm adding some spring décor to our home and planning Easter decorations – yes I know it's early but you know, bloggers have to get everything done ahead of time. Today, I'd like to show you some of my simple spring decorating ideas, like how to make some Easter egg hanging decorations and how to jazz-up a plant pot for spring.
These DIY Easter decorations are very simple and easy to do so this is not going to be one of my usual mammoth blog posts!
A QUICK REMINDER: When attempting any DIY project, please take care to undertake the necessary safety precautions. You should always follow the manufacturer’s safety recommendations when using any product or tool. When following my instructions for a DIY project, you are doing so at your own risk.
Simple spring decorating idea #1
Decorate a plant pot
Let's start with simple spring decorating idea number one - jazzing up a plant pot because that's going to take all of five minutes!
My go-to colour for plant pots is white. White goes with everything and you can easily change it up to suit the season.
I managed to find a lovely white flowering plant at the supermarket (still in lockdown = no garden centres). It looks a bit bland in its white pot so I've decided it can have a little bit of a spring makeover. After this long lockdown, I think I'll need a spring makeover myself but I don't think just adding a bit of ribbon is going to cut it, unfortunately!
I love adding white flowering plants to my home in Spring. You may have already seen my simple Easter tablescape or my elegant Easter centrepiece where I also used white flowers.
Anyway, here's what you will need for this spring plant pot.

Materials for decorating a plant pot
- Burlap ribbon (these are so pretty)
- Coloured ribbon of choice
- Dried willow twigs or similar
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Glue sticks
Step 1
First off, cut the burlap ribbon to size. It needs to be the circumference of your pot plus a small overlap.
Do the same with the coloured ribbon.
Step 2
Wrap the burlap ribbon around the pot and glue it together at the back.
Step 3
Attach your coloured ribbon over the top of the burlap and glue it together at the back again.
Step 4
Take your little sprig of dried willow and tuck it inside the burlap ribbon.
That's it! Now you have a pretty spring planter for your pretty spring plants! The best bit is that you can change any plant pot to suit the season! Don't you just love simple spring decorating ideas like these? Me too, I love cheap and easy spring crafts!
Simple spring decorating idea #2
How to make DIY hanging Easter egg decorations.
These hanging Easter egg decorations are so pretty and are easily made.
Materials for making an Easter egg garland
Here's what you'll need for your Easter egg garland:
- Large Eggs (Real eggs blown out or crafting eggs)
- Wooden heart shapes
- 1 piece of willow branch or similar (approx. 1cm/10mm thick)
- Dried birch/weeping willow twigs or similar
- Floral wire
- String for hanging
Step 1
First cut a piece of willow branch to whichever size you want your Easter garland to be. I took mine from the willow tree in our garden which has just had its late winter pruning.
Step 2
Collect a large bunch of twigs and secure them to one end of the willow branch with floral wire.
Step 3
Twist the twigs around the willow branch until you get to the end and then tie them to the willow branch at that end. You can add some more if it looks a bit bare.
Step 4
Use the string to make a hanger and hang your willow branch wherever takes your fancy. I'm hanging mine in the lounge, over my DIY vintage mirror.
Step 5
Hang the Easter eggs and hearts along the length of the willow branch.
Your Easter egg hanging garland is finished!
