Last week, I shared my home decorated for summer as part of the Blogger's Summer Home Tour. This week, by popular demand, I'm showing you how I created some of the décor which was featured in my summer home tour. Summer decorating doesn't have to break the bank or be a chore. Let me show you 6 easy ways to decorate your home for summer.
Decorate your home for summer – Wooden Bowl
I decorated my hallway table with this simple wooden bowl décor.
Wooden bowl decorating Supplies
If you'd like to decorate your home for summer with this simple display you will need the following items:
- Wooden bowl (or alternative)
- Small potted plant (I used Kalanchoe)
- Small plant pot or candle holder
- Summer ornament
- Dried green moss
- Bunny tail (Dried grass)
- Seashells
- Small stick or kebab skewer
- LED mini string lights (Optional)
- 3 Large Feathers
Instructions for a wooden bowl display
Arrange the potted plant and wooden ornament in the bowl how you like them.
Fill in with dried moss.
Place some seashells on top of the moss around the display.
Push some of the Bunny Tail Grass into the earth in the plant pot.
Slide a large seashell or a large snail shell onto the wooden stick or kebab stick and push that into the earth too.
Arrange the feathers at the back of the plant pot.
To add a little sparkle, I placed some string lights at the back of my display – feel free to do that too if you like. The string lights will brighten up a dark room that doesn't get much sun.
This wooden bowl décor is one of the simplest ways to decorate your home for summer.
Decorate your home for summer – Large Cylinder Vase
This cylinder vase décor would look great as a table centrepiece either inside or outdoors. I styled my coffee table with this display and it's the first thing you see when you enter the lounge from the hallway.
Cylinder vase decorating supplies
- Large glass cylinder vase
- Small glass cylinder vase
- Large round placemat (Not shown)
- Small potted plant (grass or fern)
- Dried moss
- Dried Bunny Tail Grass
- Plant pot saucer – or alternative
- Seashells
- Large round twig wreath
- Fresh or faux green foliage
- Fresh or faux garland
- Gnarly twigs or driftwood (Taller than the vase)
Instructions for a cylinder vase display
Turn the plant pot saucer upside down and place it in the centre of the large cylinder vase. We're using it to add some height.
Pop the potted grass or fern inside the smaller cylinder vase. Push dried moss between the sides of the plant pot and the glass vase until the plant pot is hidden.
Place the small cylinder vase on the saucer.
Fill the bottom of the large cylinder vase with seashells as high as you like.
Push some of the Bunny Tail Grass into the earth of the potted plant.
Add a few gnarly twigs or driftwood so that it reaches out of the top of the vase.
Set the twig wreath on top of the round place set in the centre of the table.
Stand the large cylinder glass display on the twig wreath.
Add some green foliage and summer flowers around the glass vase. I use fresh foliage and change it out every few days or so. Although, I find that it also looks good once it has dried. If you don't want to bother with changing out the foliage, you could also use faux foliage for this.
There, you have the second easy way to decorate your home for summer!
Decorate your home for summer – Style a tray
One of the easiest ways to decorate your home for summer is by styling a pretty tray with summer décor items. You can add as much or as little as you like, the sky is the limit!
Simple Summer Tray - Decorating supplies
Small potted plant
Small plant pot or candle holder
Instructions for styling a tray
Arrange all of your décor items on the tray until you are pleased with how they look. The taper candles should be of varying heights to add some interest.
Place some strands of Bunny Tail Grass across the tray between the display. The Bunny Tail Grass is a common theme throughout each display and ties them all together.
That's the third easy way to decorate your home for summer!
Decorate your home for summer – Glass Bottle Display
This glass bottle display makes for a gorgeous table centrepiece for indoor or outdoor dining (if there is no wind). The display is simple to put together yet it looks simply stunning and is sure to be a talking point for guests!
Glass Bottle Display – Decorating supplies
- A selection of bottles in varying forms and sizes
- Fresh or faux plant leaves (I used Fern and Lilly of the Valley)
- Distilled water (See 'Why use distilled water')
- Plate or tray
- Seashells
- White taper candles
- Aluminium foil (Optional)
- Mini LED string lights (Optional)
- Decor sand (Optional)
Instructions for making a glass bottle display
Push some summer foliage down into the bottle. If the neck of your bottle is long, you may find it helpful to use the handle of a spoon to gently push down the foliage.
Fill the bottles with distilled water.
Why use distilled water?
If you use tap water for a submerged flower display, the minerals in the water will give off air bubbles that will cling to the sides of the glass and ruin your display.
Distilled water has been purified of minerals and does not bubble like tap water. If you want to keep the water in your glass bottle display clear and still, distilled water is the way to go.
Add some candles
Now, it's time to push a taper candle into the neck of each bottle.
TIP: Here's a simple trick, if the candle is too slim to fit in the neck of the bottle.
Tear off a section of aluminium foil and fold it into a narrow strip. Roll this strip around the candle until it is thick enough to fit inside the bottleneck.
Place the glass bottle onto an oval plate or tray which has been set in the middle of the table.
Sprinkle some seashells around the bottles on the plate. You could also add some sand if you'd like an extra beachy feel.
For extra sparkle, a length of tiny LED lights looks lovely draped through this display!
There goes the fourth easy way to decorate your home for summer!
Decorate your home for summer – Boxes, baskets and plants
Don't underestimate the power of a simple flowering plant to liven up your home for summer. To add to the summer feeling, think of using boxes and baskets as indoor planters instead of ceramic pots.
What you'll need
Here you can see two ways I brought the outdoors in when I decorated my home for summer this year.
In the hallway, I simply added two white flowering geraniums to a vintage wooden brick form box.
In this display in the dining room, I've displayed a lovely white flowering summer plant in a square wicker basket.
Here are the same sort of flowers in a box. I wrapped some jute ribbon around the top of the plant pots to hide them.
It's simple but it's different and the wood and baskets add another layer of texture to the display!
There you have the fifth way to decorate your home for summer!
Decorate your home for summer – Tall cylinder vase with grass
Tall cylinder vase – Decorating supplies
This display is really easy to create.
First add the dried rose petals to the cylinder vase.
This looks very effective if you have a small nook where you can display the glass. In summer, we don't need logs so we don't re-stock our indoor wood stack in the fire surround. It's always nice to have some tall décor to add to that spot. This display looks even better with some lanterns placed around the glass.
Now, I've given you six easy ways to decorate your home for summer!
That's how easy it is to decorate your home for summer
These are all very simple home décor ideas that anyone can do. All you need is to gather the supplies, after that it's easy! You may already have most of the supplies at home.
Once you have the materials, you can make any number of seasonal displays with them in the future. All you need to do is change out the décor for something more fitting to the season!
I hope this post has inspired you to decorate your home for summer but if all this is still too much, a simple vase of summer flowers will work wonders too!
Save it for later!
