How to make clothespin snowflakes for Christmas

    Clothespin snowflakes

Clothespin snowflakes or stars are so easy to make. You can hang them on your tree as Christmas ornaments or personalise them and use them as gift tags. I'm using mine as place settings as part of my white Christmas table décor this year. They complement the farmhouse style footed tray and decoration that I made a few weeks ago too.

I joined up with a group of talented bloggers for this Christmas crafting blog hop. Thanks to Allison of American School of Charm for organising. The brief was to create a Christmas ornament which could be personalised for gifting. You'll see further down this post, how I personalised my clothespin snowflakes.

To make my clothespin snowflakes, I used up some crafting pegs which I had leftover after making my lovely clothespin trivets. You can find clothespins at the supermarket or sometimes craft supply stores will also stock them.

I used white chalk paint to cover my clothespin snowflakes, but you can use whichever colour takes your fancy.

Here's a list of the things you'll need for this clothespin craft.

    Materials for making clothespin snowflakes

    • Wooden clothespins/pegs | USA
    • Glue gun | USA | UK | DE |
    • Glue sticks | USA | UK | DE |
    • White chalk paint (or other) | USA | UK | DE |
    • Snowflake decorations | USA | | UK |
    • Optional
    • Wood glue | USA | UK | DE |

Step 1: Remove the metal clasp.

If your clothespins have a metal clasp, remove them by twisting each side of the pegs away from each other. The metal clasp should pop out. I used crafting pegs that didn't have any metal clasps attached, so I didn't need to do this step.

    Step 2: Glue clothespins together

Use a glue gun to glue the pegs together as you can see in the photo below.

    Step 3: Make a cross

    Step 4 Make the snowflakes

Glue two peg pieces together. Use your glue gun to glue the flat pieces together. The rounded edges should be facing inwards.

Glue the 'open' ends of the clothespins in between each quarter of the cross shape. See the photo below.

    Step 5: Paint the snowflakes

Once the glue is dry, you can paint your snowflakes with whichever colour paint you like, to complement the colour of your Christmas decorations.

    Step 6: Add an embelishment

Your clothespin snowflake is almost finished. Add a small blob of glue to the middle of your snowflakes and pop a simple decoration on top. I used wood glue to glue a wooden snowflake to the centre of mine.

    How to personalise clothespin snowflakes

I made some slim Christmas banners in Canva and printed them out. You could also do this and add a name instead of the Christmas greeting.

I've added my banners to the Chalking Up Success free printables library so if you want them, you can download them from there.

The blue 'Merry Christmas' banner you see in the photo above can be downloaded from the FREE subscriber library. There are a few colours and Christmas greetings to choose from.
