Save those paper straws to make a stunning floral table centerpiece for your next event. These easy DIY baby's breath centerpieces are perfect for adding dreamy elegance to DIY wedding decor or summer celebrations, indoors or out.
You all know how much I love twinkling lights in my home. I especially love adding them to dining table centerpieces and decorations. Candles and mini string lights help to create such a cozy and elegant atmosphere, indoors or out. If the twinkles come in the form of homemade soy candles, that's all the better.
Baby's breath candle: inspiration
Today, I'm creating beautiful baby's breath centerpieces for a special family celebration we are hosting in our garden this summer.
I saw something similar in a local shop, but it had small plastic tubes for the flowers. While searching for a more sustainable alternative, I found these brown paper straws in a craft shop and knew they would fit the bill perfectly.

Instructions for DIY baby's breath centerpieces
1. Prepare the Glass Vase
The first step is to prepare your glass vase. Make sure it is clean and dry. Any dust or moisture can prevent the sticky tape from sticking to the glass.
2. Apply Sticky Tape and Baking Paper

Take your double-sided sticky tape and carefully wrap it around the bottom section of the glass vase. The double-sided sticky tape will keep the baking paper in place, providing a base for the straws. Make sure the tape is applied evenly to avoid any wrinkles or bubbles.

Next, cut a piece of baking paper to fit around the taped area of the vase. The baking paper provides a protective layer between the glass and the glue. Once cut to size, press the baking paper onto the sticky tape, ensuring it sticks well.

★Tip★ Use a piece of string to measure the circumference of the glass vase.
3. Attach Paper Straws

Pre-cut your paper straws to various heights to add visual interest and texture to your baby's breath centerpieces. Apply a small amount of glue to the piece of each straw where it touches the baking paper and press firmly. Continue this process, arranging the straws closely together around the vase.

As you attach the straws, try to vary the heights to create a more dynamic look. Make sure that all the straws are securely glued and standing straight.

★Tip★ Glue guns can get very hot and the glue gets even hotter! You may prefer using craft glue instead if you are making these with children.
4. Fill the Straws with Baby's Breath

Next, take small sprigs of baby's breath and insert them into the tops of the paper straws. If you prefer, you can add a mix of dried flower seeds and grasses, like bunny tail grass, for more texture. Arrange the flowers and grasses evenly around the glass. You don't need to fill every straw, but the baby's breath should look full around the glass.
5. Add Sand and a Candle

Once the straws are firmly stuck on the baking paper around the glass, pour sand into the bottom of the vase. Sand adds a decorative, summery touch and helps stabilize the candle.
Lastly, place the white stump candle in the center of the vase, twisting it gently into the sand, ensuring it stands straight and is well-supported.

Final thoughts on baby's breath centerpieces
Baby's breath centerpieces are the sort of DIY that, although simple to make, creates a beautiful atmosphere that your guests will be talking about long after the party. They are so versatile that you can use them in your home as centerpieces on your dining table or as decorative pieces on your mantel. Bring baby's breath centerpieces to parties as handmade gifts for someone else to enjoy or add a touch of sparkle to your DIY wedding table decor. If the weather is warm, you can use baby's breath candle holders outside as well, just remember to bring them in at night, or the paper straws may get soggy in the morning dew.
