Sensational storage solutions to clear the clutter

Today we're going to clear the clutter! It's easy to say but for some of us, not so easy to do. Today, I thought I'd help out with that if I can.

In last week's post, 'How to achieve a clutter-free home', we looked at some nifty techniques to improve motivation and create new habits to achieve a clutter-free home on autopilot. If you read that post, you may remember one of my fave techniques – visualization.

Visualize the end result

One way to convince your brain that an activity is worth starting is to look ahead to the end result. As I said in last week's post, I am a visual person so I'm a HUGE fan of this technique and it works for me every time.

You need to think about how your space will look once it's clutter-free and feel the satisfaction you'll get from being able to use it in a totally new way. Visualizing the result of your efforts can improve your focus and help kick-start your motivation to clear the clutter and banish it for good.

Now, visualization may not be easy for everyone to master but it can play such a tremendous part in motivating us. Today, I'm sharing how my favourite process helps me clear the clutter in my home.

Clear the clutter with visualization first

Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.

Imagine laying eyes on your own house for the first time.

As you walk into the hallway, an incredible sense of calm and peace comes over you. You see coats and shoes stored neatly on stylish racks. There seems to be a place for everything. Letters and keys have their own unique hideaway.

In the kitchen, the surfaces are super smooth and uncluttered with just a few decorative containers on show. You open the drawers and see that they are beautifully organised. There's no losing anything in this kitchen and cooking here is always a pleasure.

The living room draws you in and invites you to sit and stay a while, ease out of your shoes, put your feet up onto the storage ottoman and relax.

The sense of calm prevails in this room because again, you've avoided the usual clutter. Remotes, coasters and charges are artfully concealed in a beautiful box. Magazines are cleverly stashed away in a sleek magazine rack at the side of the sofa, oh, and there's that gorgeous basket filled with throws for cooler evenings.

The children play in this room too but when the toys are not in use they are hidden away in stylish storage trunks which also double as a side table.

Are you beginning to get the picture? Do you see how visualization helps? You can do this in one area, one room or for every room in your house. Using the power of visualization, you can create incredible results.

Create a moodboard

There is another tool I use, which makes the visualization process even easier. It puts the images right there in your mind before you even start. I make a moodboard. Sometimes, I just make a moodboard on Pinterest and other times I'll make one with photos and magazine cuttings. I add all the items to my moodboard that I would like to see in my home - things which will help me to clear the clutter by hiding away 'messy' items.
